About Me

Author. Singer/Songwriter. Media Host.

           FULL CIRCLE

                          MY STORY

Creativity and performing arts are my great loves. However, coming from

an Asian background it was the norm for my parents to want me to pursue

a career in either medicine or law. I was strongly persuaded to study the latter when all I ever wanted was to go to drama school.

The legal profession was not for me. I went into the pharmaceutical industry for many years whilst concurrently training in singing and performance.

I received vocal coaching from my dear friend the late, great Helena Shenel. Helena taught amazing performers such as George Michael and Shirley Bassey.

I got the taste for acting when I attended an intensive summer workshop at

Webber Douglas Drama School in Kensington, London. I was encouraged to apply for the Postgraduate Course in Acting. As fate would have it, at the same

time an opportunity to move to Hong Kong presented itself.

Once there I became involved with The Garrison Players and performed in

plays and gigs. After nearly two years it was time to return to the U.K. to

concentrate on music and try to secure a record deal.

I had only been back a few weeks when my aunt invited me on holiday

to Puerto Pollensa, Majorca. I was in a lively restaurant one evening

singing along to some music when I was approached by a man called

Tony Ponte. He used to work for Decca Records in the US and he wanted

to put me in a studio when I got back to London. When I got home he did

just that and promptly signed me to a 5-year music management contact.

This was eventually ended as he was committed to producing a film in

Australia and I didn’t want to go because I had just returned from Hong

Kong and London was the place to be.

This was a good idea as I got into a circle of really good musicians such as

Talvin Singh and Nitin Sawhney. Those were fun times. Talvin was my first producer. We both rode elephants to Talvin’s song down the Champ Elysees whilst rehearsing for the French Bicentennial produced by Jean Paul Goude. The elephants had to be pulled out of the parade due to a threat on their safety. I have enjoyed performing in Hong Kong and the U.K.

Through Big Red Management with Sheen Doran and her wonderful choreography, show cases were staged around London which gained attention.

I was then introduced to Val and Jane Risdon of SMI Music Management.

A British couple based in Los Angeles. Through them the songs I co-wrote

with Gareth Young were signed to Sony Asia.

I worked with Danny Chang Music and the songs produced with him

were signed to Elstree Music Publishing.

To expand on my creativity I went on a TV Presenter's course, obtained

A Diploma in Professional Theatre from The Birmingham Theatre School

And two advanced Certificates in acting from Birmingham Drama School.

Full circle, here I am combining my love of interviewing people and my inquisitive nature of learning about the newest and latest techniques in a variety of sectors and industries. Welcome to Gitasworld. I hope you will join me on this journey and that the episodes we produce will peek your interests in all that we present.
